There are different paths to owning versus managing. If you want to own one, it’s a matter of accumulating enough money to buy. This would most likely involve either (a) getting very lucky along the way, or (b) entering a high risk/high reward field like real estate or investment banking - and then getting very lucky along the way. If you are willing to start smaller, say, with a bed & breakfast, just saving enough to buy a house, fix it up, and start running it. Any career would allow you to do this if you are saavy with your finances, though management courses would help with actually running it.
If you want to manage a place, which in any event would be good experience to have before owning one, take a college prep curriculum in high school. No one hires non-degreed managers to run a hotel or resort. Start thinking about what courses colleges want to see on your high school transcript, and take them. In college, you would look for a good business school. A bachelor’s in business administration would be a plus; some colleges specifically offer hotel management specialties. If you are truly ambitious, taking the next step for an M.B.A. would help even more. Finally, look to gain experience of some kind in a hotel or resort in the meantime. Many offer summer internships, and you should take advantage of those.
