What is a better vacation destination: Barbados or Maui (other things being equal)?

I’m assuming you’ve been to both. Please don’t answer if you haven’t. My wife and I are planning a vacation in December, and we would take our 1 year-old daughter. We’ll spend $3000 to $4000 per person for 7 days.

Maui- it is in the US, and that has advantages. It has beautiful beaches, and many outdoor/touristy activities. It is closer to the western part of the US (I don’t know where you live). I have been to both, and Maui is pretty, not too crowded, has shopping and dining, and plenty to do. Barbados is nice, but if you haven’t been to Maui, I suggest that first! There is some information about it listed below, activities, map, etc.
